Health & Fitness has become a very hot topic at a time when majority of people are engaged in sedentary lifestyles. Getting into shape, cutting down calories, having a calorie-deficit diet, measuring macros have become the new buzzwords. People are becoming more health conscious with increasing incidence of non-communicable and lifestyle diseases like diabetes, hypertension etc. But it is important to understand that health is not having only a physical aspect or a nutritional character. Going by classic definition, physical health imply the physical appearance of an individual while nutritional health imply adequate nutrition for prevention disease and maintaining body’s natural immunity. And finally, psychological health implies the ability to maintain calm & patience even in trying circumstances. Deficiencies in fitness impact the wellbeing of a person in different ways and affect his quality of life. A depressed man cannot be expected to undertake productive activities. An unhealthy and unfit lifestyle results in premature death. Obesity among our teenagers has become a teething public health problem. Multinational junk food joints attract the young generation by spending millions in advertisements to make their unhealthy food appealing to youngsters, setting the stage for diabetes, heart disease, and other serious health problems at a much early phase of life.

Therefore it is important that individual must be trained from their early childhood to remain fit. They must be taught about the importance of maintain a healthy lifestyle and the deleterious effects unhealthy lifestyle on their quality of life. They must be prodded to walking or run, cycle or play, swim or engage in other activities of physical exertions to maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle. A person who is fit both physically and mentally is gets equipped with the ability to face difficult circumstances in life, know how to tackle he bull by its horns, facing challenges head-on. Staying active makes individual energetic, joyful and upbeat. A balanced lifestyle, adequate amount of sleep in conformity with the body’s natural clock i.e. circadian rhythm, stability of the core, aerobic conditioning etc. are some recipes to maintain a healthy life along with adequate amount of sunlight for vitamin D, inhaling of fresh air given the fact that most of us try to remain indoors during our weekends. It can be said that the benefits of a active & healthy lifestyle cannot be understated, not in our times, not during times of our forefather and not ever.
