BCCI introduced a professional Twenty20 Cricket League in the year 2007. The 12th edition of this League known as the Indian Premier League will be held in the next year. The season will most probably start from 29th March 2019.

All the franchises of IPL had to submit their retentions to BCCI before November 15 and the player auction will take place in December.

Chennai Super Kings has won IPL three times in the year 2018, 2011 and 2010. CSK plays its home matches at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Chennai based franchise holds the record of most appearances in the IPL playoffs (nine) and in the final (seven).

Chennai Super Kings had declared the release of three players from its Squad ahead of the IPL 2019 auction while the team had retained 22 players. The three players who were released from the CSK for IPL 2019 includes English pacer Mark Wood, Kanishk Seth, and Kshitiz Sharma.

While the players retained inlcudes, MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis, M Vijay, Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Billings, Mitchell Santner, David Willey, Dwayne Bravo, Shane Watson, Lungi Ngidi, Imran Tahir, Kedar Jadhav, Ambati Rayudu, Harbhajan Singh, Deepak Chahar, KM Asif, Karn Sharma, Dhruv Shorey, N Jagadeesan, Shardul Thakur, Monu Kumar and Chaitanya Bishnoi.
